Lalla Rookh Remembrance Service – 22nd November at 2pm

The Lalla Rookh Disaster and its Lasting Legacy

www.WorthingLifeboatHeritage.co.uk

In 1850, before Worthing ever had a lifeboat, 35 of our fishermen put to sea in a violent storm and rescued the distressed ship Lalla Rookh and its crew.

In doing so, 11 of the rescuers lost their lives, but their selfless courage was not in vain, it inspired the setting up of Worthing lifeboat station.

One of the worst tragedies in the town’s history, they will be honoured at a remembrance service in St Mary’s Broadwater church, BN14 9AA on Sunday 22 November at 2pm.
