December Journal Article
I would like to thank our loyal members for their support during a difficult year. We have all been recovering from the effects of Covid 19 . On a personal level I extend my appreciation to the Worthing Society Committee, all unpaid volunteers, working hard to protect our unique heritage. We have recently celebrated the Fortieth Anniversary of the Society. Many notable buildings have been saved, including The Dome and Beach House. We also continue to extend the Blue Plaque Trail highlighting Worthing’s social history, the most recent being dedicated to Ethel Methold MBE, pioneer in health and social care.
Our Heritage Team continually monitor planning applications affecting our heritage buildings and conservation areas. We have successfully commented on the Goring Gap plans and contributed to the Worthing Lido Survey and made suggestions to restore the central garden to Montague Place as part of the ‘Ideas for Worthing’ consultation. We shall be scrutinising plans for the Montague Quarter and Union Place. Our challenge will be to see good design that compliments Worthing’s heritage.
The work of the conservationist has never been more needed, particularly with the challenges to our green infrastructure. We welcome new members of all ages.
Seasons greetings to our members and readers.
