Fortieth Anniversary

I am delighted to tell you this year is the fortieth anniversary of the Worthing Society which was established in 1982 and we are very proud of our achievements. During this time we have saved many historic buildings for the town including Beach House, The Dome , Piazza Express (with the Jane Austen Connection and The Burlington on the seafront. The Society has gained the protective, listed, status of many others which survive as a result today. We also led the successful Campaign to save the internationally important Desert Quartet for Worthing.

TheSociety has donated over eighteen Blue Plaques to the town, linking our social history to the historic buildings to form a Heritage Trail. In future our main challenges will be to fight for good standards of planning to enhance the town’s character and to protect our open green infrastructure.

As one of the Mayoral Charities for 2022, we shall be taking part in fundraising events supporting the Mayor and raising the profile of the Society. Once Covid restrictions lift we will resume our heritage talks and ‘membership drive.’ We welcome new members of all ages to support our conservation work.
